Determination of Spectral Resolution
Resolving-power Resolution (RR)
When closely spaced line emission peaks can be resolved (such as the 577+579nm Mercury doublet) and are clearly separated at Half the Max peak height (HM), the distance between the peak and where its slope intersects the HM is the resolving resolution in nanometer(s). StellarNet estimates spectrometer resolution using RR. In a spectrograph with a perfectly imaged detector array, RR will be the nm/pixel dispersion. Larger slits decrease resolution as the image spreads to adjacent detector pixels.
Line-width Resolution (LR)
When a single peak is measured at its Full Width Half Max (FWHM), the difference where the slopes intersect the HM is the Line-width resolution in nanometer(s). Conversion from LR to RR use: LR ~= 2 * RR.
Emission Spectra - HgAr gas and Laser/LEDs
StellarNet UV Spectrometer, range 200 - 600nm, with 10um slit installed and 1200 g/mm holographic grating with 0.4 nm resolution. Optics available in either BLUE-Wave advanced miniature or GREEN-Wave low cost portable spectrometer platforms.
StellarNet UV spectrometer zoomed to clearly show mercury doublet at 576.9 and 579.0 nm. The amount area returning to the base line between the adjacent peaks is a good indicator of the instruments resolution.
StellarNet BLACK-Comet UV+VIS spectrometer, range 190 - 850nm, with 25um slit installed and 590 g/mm concave aberration corrected holographic grating with 0.7 nm resolution. With NO mirrors the unit has minimal stray light, less components and superb image quality.
StellarNet VIS spectrometer, range 350 - 1150nm, with 25um slit installed and 600g/mm holographic grating with 2.5 nm resolution. Optics available in either BLUE-Wave advanced miniature or GREEN-Wave low cost portable spectrometer platforms.
StellarNet model NIR3 spectrometer, range 550 - 840nm, with 25um slit installed and 1800g/mm holographic grating with 0.3nm resolution. Optics available in either BLUE-Wave advanced miniature or GREEN-Wave low cost portable spectrometers.
Absorbance Spectra - Holmium Perchlorate

Deuterium Spectra from SL3 Fiber Optic Lamp
White Light Spectra from SL1-CAL Lamp
StellarNet BLACK-Comet UV+VIS SpectroRadiometer with NIST traceable irradiance calibration for 300 - 850nm, with 200um slit providing 6nm resolution. An F400-UV-VIS fiber optic cable attachment with CR1 cosine receptor is measuring the SL1-CAL (irradiance calibration) lamps blackbody curve. The lamp is a white light (tungsten + krypton gas) with 2800 Kelvin CCT.
Deuterium & Halogen Spectra from SL1-Filter plus SL3 coupled by F400YB fiber
StellarNet EPP2000-UVN-SR SpectroRadiometer with NIST traceable irradiance calibration for 200 - 1100nm, with 50um slit providing 2nm resolution. An F600-UV-VIS fiber optic cable attachment with CR2 cosine receptor is measuring the combined lamp output at the F400YB fiber optic bundle. The resulting blackbody curve for UV + VIS + NIR is shown. The F400YB cable can be attached to reflectance probes and transmission fixtures for a variety of spectroscopy measurements requiring high power (21 watt per sq meter) references.
